Description
I gained a lot of experience in my 14 years of care work working with elderly and people with brain injury. I worked with Dementia, neurological conditions like Stroke, Huntington Disease and MS and have experience with blind people. I also learned methods of communication with non-verbal people. For one year I worked with people with learning disabilities within a sheltered housing.
I have experience with assistance with personal hygiene and dressing, assistance with complex nutrition/ feeding needs, continence support, assisting with administering medication, skin care support, supporting those with poor mobility including hoist, catheter care, supporting those with different cultures/ religions, companionship and activities, emotional support.
I have a background as occupational therapist what might be helpful in some situations.
I'm a caring and empathetic person and sensitive to people with different backgrounds and diverse abilities.
It is important for me that people feel safe and understood and they are involved in decisions and activities, to keep their independence as much as possible.
I enjoy helping people and see the difference it makes in their life even seeing a smile on their face.
I am happy to work in households with pets and help looking after them.
